The text and lecturer offer two opposing views on the accuracy of the four-day work policy. While the text list some factors such as the more profits for the company, better economic condition, and decrement of the unemployment rate as the benefits of this policy, the professor counters these specific points and presents some clues to call into question for the information in the reading passage and to come to her conclusion.
First of all, the professor refutes the aspect of enhancement of company profit which in the reading part is nominated as one of the advantages of this policy, since the workforce are less inclined to do the mistakes and the company has the same outcome with less error. The lecturer states that new employees require a novel cost to get prepared and illustrate their function. While the company has to spend the more money for medical benefits and insurance; besides, the novel workforces demands additional space and computers to be accountable. All of these costs cut into profits. As a result, the company does not do the profit.
Next, although the passage mentions that this policy is beneficial as it reduces the unemployment rates, the professor doubts the truth of this claim. As the lecturer asserts this policy is costly and this situation leads the employers to promote their expectation from their employees. For instance, they can ask the workforces to show the same workload in four days work which they illustrated in the five days work. Hence, they do not require a new force that is how the lecturer cast doubt on the accuracy of this aspect.
Finally, the lecturer argues that this role does not enhance the workers' leisure hours. Meanwhile, the passage mentions it as a benefit of this incidence. Based on the professor's evidence this role endangers the employees' life quality. Since they are more likely to be fired; whenever the company faces the downturn. Moreover, this group of employees does not have the same benefit option which the group of 5-days wok has.
