The text and lecturer offer two opposing views on the accuracy of the surmise which the specific painting does belong to the Rembrandt or not. while the text lists some factor such as the illogical clothing of the woman, the error in the light and shadow on the lady's face, and multi glued panel for the back of the painting as the main reasons which cast doubt on the accuracy of the painting, the professor counters these specific points and presents some clues to call into the question for the information in the reading passage and come to her conclusion.
First of all, the professor refutes the inconsistent wearing of lady hypothesis, which in the passage is named as one of the main reasons for this doubt. Since Rembrandt is meticulous about the details and he did not let the lady to wear two counterparts pieces such as the servant clothing and the fur collar. The lecturer states that it is an explicit fact the painter is serious about the details; however, based on the recent examination of the painting by the X-ray the fur collar is added after 100 years from his death. Since they like to enhance the value of the painting, they add the fur collar to the white linen without consideration of the main painting subject and details.
Next, the reading part uses the reason that the painter is an expert in the illustration of light and shadow as a reason for this suspicion. Based upon the text assumption, the lady's face should be partially shadowed since the fur collar absorbs all lights instead of reflecting. However, the face is totally bright by the reflection of light. The professor argues the truth of this claim. As the lecturer states the fur collar is not the part of an original painting. If the additional fur collar removes from the painting real portrait will be completely realistic and it is shaped based on the painter's craft in the light and shadow.
Finally, the lecturer argues that the fact of a panel with various pieces. Meanwhile, the article presumes that the painter solely used one cogent panel contradicted from the panel type of this specific painting. Based upon the professor's evidence the extra pieces are added later to enlarge the panel. Besides, the texture of the main panel is like the same tree texture used for his other painting panel.
In conclusion, the lecturer effectively casts doubt on all doubts on all of the claim and theories presented in the reading.
