The article states that Did bees have been existing on Earth for 200 million years. This prospective is on the basis of fossil structures, which are discovered in Arizona, that resemble bee nests. However, the professor explains that it is possible and the arguments are not convincing and casts doubt on each of the author's reasons.

First, the reading posits that there is not any evidence of actual bees' fossils. The professor refutes this point by saying that it is true that there is not any evidence of for those fossils but the trees which preserve the fossils were quite rare.

Second, in the article it is claimed that the due to the fact that bees are dependent on flowers to feed and in that period there was not any flower, it is not possible for this theory. However, it is plausible for bees to feed on non-flowering plants, the professor says. According to the professor, early bees may benefit from plants like pine trees and later, when flowering plants emerged they adapted themselves on them and this situation became stable during the time.

Third, the reading asserts that fossilized details which are found in Arizona lack some of the finer details of bees' nests. The professor opposes this point by clarifying that some chemical evidence has suggested that the method of protection of modern bees is based on being water proof. We also learn that it has turned out that modern bees have the same content of water as the early bees had.
