“The best way to give advice to other people is to find out what they want and then advise them how to attain it.” Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion expressed above. Support your point of view with reasons and/or examples
The statement states that to give advice to other people, the best way is to first find out what they want and then advise how they can attain it. I thoroughly agree with the author’s statement. I believe that without having knowledge of something, one cannot express any kind of statement towards it. If one wants to do something, the one has to have clear knowledge of they want to do, understand it thoroughly, and then perform their work. Therefore I agree with the statement that, the best way to give an advice to other people is to find out what they want and then advice them how to attain it.
Firstly, I would like to mention that, advice is not a small thing; it is a very responsible thing which should not be given casually. If somebody wants to advise someone on any matter, the first thing is that they should know what the matter is and should understand every part of it. By tying a black cloth on your eyes, you cannot tell other person that look, what a beautiful rose it is. By this example, I would make my point clear that, without knowing what is in front of you, you cannot talk a single word about it. In the same way, if you want to advise somebody, then you must first know what is the need of that person, what he wants, why does he want that, how can he get that and some other answers about that matter. Then only you are in a position to advise him on that matter and also help in explaining as to how he can attain it.
I would like to support my point with the help of an example. Suppose you see a child crying in front of you, and after asking him the reason for why he is upset, you get a simple answer from him that he want something and his parents are refusing for it. Then the sudden reaction which comes in your mind is: why are this little boy’s parents refusing him and letting him cry? Can’t they fulfill his dream? And you go to the parents and advise them that they are the parents and should give their child what he wants, without knowing the fact of what the child is asking for. Then you get a shocking surprise from the parents that: he needs an airplane to go to school. What happen then, your heads goes down. Therefore, without knowing what somebody wants, you cannot advise him about that.
In conclusion, while there are arguments to be made on both sides, it is clear that there are more advantages to agree with the author’s statement. With the help of examples and reasons, I have made my point clear as to why I agree with the statement. Therefore, in closing I would again put my point forward that the best way to give advice to other people is to find out what they want and then advise them how to attain it.
