Many people think that schools should only focus on teaching the academic skills to the students and not other things related to social values or ethical skills. On the contrary, some people think that schools have the responsibility to teach not only academic subjects but also values of the society, ethical skills and what all going around them. I would like to agree with the latter group of people and would refute the former one. Today, an individual should learn social values, besides his academic skills. No doubt those academics are mandatory, nevertheless in today's world ethical, moral and social values take the top position in the teaching circle.
Firstly, I believe that school is the first education center of an individual. It is the first step of his/her development and I consider it a temple of knowledge. Therefore, I think that a student should not only learn the subject matter of the academics, but should also learn the moral and social values. Social values play a very important role in the current society. Each and every individual should be taught about manners, respect towards one another, love, positive and negative of life as well. This will make an individual pure by heart. School is the only place where a student spends most of his/her time, therefore they should be taught about subjects, society and their surroundings.
Secondly, a child has to be taught in interesting ways so that he loves the matter first, enjoy it and then understand it. So, if only academic skills are taught to him, it becomes a boring routine to him without any fun and enthusiasm. For example, if a child is only taught subjects like math, science, history, then it is obvious that he will hate studying which results to failure. Moreover, there are many students in this world who are not interested in studies, but are interested in other curricular activities such as drama, dancing, sports etc. In order to encourage them, ethical and social values are very important and play a vital role in the development of a child.
In conclusion, I completely believe that a school is totally responsible to teach ethical and social values, besides teaching the academic skills. Therefore, I urge to all the schools that they introduce subjects such as moral students, social values, ethical understanding etc. in order to improve their students and make them strong to reach their goals.
