Today, the high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertisements and not the needs of society in which they are sold.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Greater reach of media, internet among vast majority of population has provided easy way for companies to market their product using adverts. There is some debate about influence of these promotions on large consumerism of products, which are useless to many. I strongly agree with this proponent.
There are strong reason for record sales of product which are highly advertised. Primary reason being companies effort to project their product more attractive then their competitor. They lure public by disclosing benefits, and offering discounts on items. For instance, famous sports drink company named Colarade advertises that their drink enhances athlete's performance due to additive minerals in them. They focus on youngster, unaware of real ingredients, by encouraging them to use it and as a result, their sales go up. They never reveal about side effects of product, and scientific evidence for their claims. If these products are really useful to public, then there is no need to promote all the time.
Another reason for such a phenomena is companies usage of celebrities for promotion. These famous people say about product's usability and assure public of its worthiness. Because people look unto them, their choices get influenced. For example, car manufacturing company called Hyundai employs Bollywood stars to publicize their cars without considering harmful effects. As a result, sales go up and increase in vehicles have many drawbacks like traffic congestion, increase in pollution, which are bad for society.
All in all, I strongly agree with view of role of adverts on increase in consumer demands. Government should monitor and regulate companies products before allowing them for advertisements.
