The author believes that the so-called "let it burn" policy, whereby fire in the environment is left unintervened by human, has negative effects on the environment, and it should be replaced by other policies. The lecturer, however, has the opposite point of view. She explains why the author is not right about his points.
First, the author states that the Yellowstone fire incident destroyed a significant part of the trees and vegitation in the park, and turned a precious national property into a wasteland. On the contrary, the lecturer asserts that destroying the old vegitation provided an oppontunity for a diversity of new plants to disperse in the area, which otherwise would not grow.
Second, the author suggests that the incident also caused a dramatic decrease in animal populations, as though many species either fled or died. Conversly, the lecturer argues that a lot of new species started to thrive in the area as a result of the ecological changes.
Finally, the author contends that the incident not only reduced the tourist season, but also caused a decline in the number of tourist visitors, which affected the economy in a negatively. On the other hand, the lecturer explains that it was an unsual incident, and the tourism regained its previous state a year after the incident, thus, the author might not be right about the effects of the incident on the economy.
