The graph below shows the average time spent by four car manufactures to produce vehicles at their US factories

The line graph illustrates the average amount of time spent by four different companies in the USA on the production of a car from 1998 to 2005.

Overall, it is clear that the number of hours taken by those companies to produce a vehicle decreased over the period shown. However, General Motor reduced the production time by more hours than the other three manufacturers

In 1998, General Motors took 32 hours to produce a car. The production time of Ford was 4 hours lower than this, while the figures for Toyota and Honda were similar at approximately 22 hours per vehicle. In the following years, production times fluctuated for most of the companies, although all figures generally decreased.

After reaching a peak of around 31 hours in 2001, the number of hours taken to build a vehicle of Ford fell by about 10 hours to 21 hours in 2005. The figures for the other companies also decreased by 2005. The time of manufacture declined steadily over the period to 22 hours in the case of General Motor. However, in the case of Toyota and Honda, there was a slight reduction in the average production time per car, so that each company produced an automobile in 20 hours in 2005.
