The graph below gives information about total oil use of 4 main consumers from 2009 to 2030
The line graph compares four different areas in terms of using oil between 2009 and 2030, measured in millions of barrels per day.
Overall, it is clear that oil consumption in the US and also in Western Europe/Japan is predicted to decrease over the period shown, in contrast to the expected increase in China and the Middle East. The US will remain the major consumer throughout the period
From 2009 to 2015, the number of barrels of oil consumed daily in the US totaled almost 10 million. However, the consumption decreased to over 9 million barrels in 2016 and is predicted to steadily fall to slightly over 4 million barrels in 2030. Western Europe and Japan also witness an anticipated reduction in consuming oil from below 4 million barrels per day in 2009 to over 2 millions barrels in 2030.
In contrast, two other consumers see a predicted growth in the amount of oil used daily from 2016. At the similar figure of slightly under 2 million barrels per day in 2009, daily oil consumption in China and the Middle East is expected to rise to over 3 million barrels and around 3 million barrels respectively in 2030.
