Endangered species
The article discusses a fascinating topic pertaining to governing laws for endangered species and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that it is very important to save species from extinction and opposes each of the authors reasons.
First, the reading passage discusses that it is misbelief that by extinction of any species there will be ecosystem disaster. The author provides an example of dinosaur lead to arrival of new species and no disaster. In contrast, the professor provides information that after dinosaur extinction there was surprising shift of species domination on earth surface. So, now it is us we human beings and it is our duty to maintain ecosystem by maintaining lives of other species in turn to maintain our own life. Clearly a disparity exists between the article and the evidence exhibited by the professor. As a result, we can safely assume that ecosystem plays an important role for human life.
Second, the article pushes forth the idea that animals have less importance in medicinal field as genetic engineering has advanced in medicine preparations. However, the classroom contends that by nature many medicines are still prepared. According to professor, 40% of prescribed drugs are prepared from plants and as 100’s of species dies per day so if any extinction occurs then there will be less chances for the arrival of new drugs into market. Consequently, we can argue that indeed the claim made in reading is unsubstantiated and as the professor said it is important to save endangering species for medical field.
Finally, the reading posits that to save endangering species huge amount of money is used which is nothing, just a waste. The author gives an example of California condor and money used to save them from getting extinct as they lived on mammoth and mammoth was no more into existence. The professor refutes this point by explaining that saving any species from getting extinct is economical advantage nor waste of money. Professor gives an example of fresh water muscles in which 43% of them are in danger of extinction in north America so as many industries are depending on that so it is obvious to save them for economical benefit. Also, he says that around 10,000 industries are depending on such animal species and average of 700 dollars of USA economy depends on them. So, this deserves and financial use for their preservation in the society.
In summary, while both the reading passage and classroom discussion provide interesting information with regards to endangered species, a significant amount of evidence supports that it is important to preserve animal species from getting extinct to maintain ecosystem. Therefore, the reading fails to justify the claims towards flaws in laws for endangered species.
