16/10/2017 You cannot pick your friend up at the airport. Write a letter to him/her. In your letter, you should
explain the reasons.
You should provide him/her with alternative ways to go to the hotel.
You should inform him/her of your plan.
Dear John,
I know I promised to meet you at the airport but it is literally impossible because I have a scheduled business trip to Hawaii on 29th March 2017, the day you arrive. The Hawaii journey is crucial for my career because if everything goes well, I may be promoted to a position of a head of the management department.
You can get to your hotel via public transportation. There is a bus service provided that may transfer you from the main airport building to the historic centre of the city than you will need to take a tram to your hotel that is situated nearby. Another alternative is my colleague who stays in the megalopolis may give you a ride to the hotel but I am not sure whether you would like to interact with a stranger.
As far as I remember, you are going to stay in Moscow for at least one month. Although I cannot meet you when you arrive, my trip will have been finished by 1st April. So, when I return, I intend to show you the most interesting landmarks and attractions of the capital and, of course, to help you make new acquaintances that could be beneficial for your future. Finally, in the middle of April, a group of friends and I are going to do some hiking in the red forest that is situated in Moscow region, I hope that you will take part in this outdoor activity as well.
I am waiting for your prompt response.
Sincerely yours,
Eugene Dubinchuk.
