tpo 12-integrated
The lecturer is talking about specific reasons that he disagrees with the passage. He believes the reasons given in the passage are not convincing and the passage has jumed into conclusion.
The first point that he mentions, is the fact that Jane Austen's portrait was recognized by her family. But at the time that her family gave their permission for the use of Austen's portrait, she had been dead for almost seventy years. So none of hear family members could not have seen her in their life time, and certainly the could not be able to recognize a painting of her.
At this point, the lecturer brings up another faulty thing in the passage. The passage states that the face of the portrait looked very similar to the sketch done by Jane's sister, Cassandra. He argues with the passage and says that at that time there were many young teen girls in Austen's family. The portrait could be from any one of them and it is not enough evidence to say that it is Jane's portrait. Many believe that the portrait was painted form a cousin of Jane's, named Mary Ann.
The lecturer brings up another point which is very interesting. He says, the only reason the portrait is related to Humphrey is the painting style. But the canvas of the portrait, was bought from a William Leg, which did not start selling canvases until Jane was 27. So Jane could not have been the one in the portrait, the lecturer believes.
