Both the reading and the lecture talk about the migration of the humpbacks. The reading states that the humpbacks navigate using the stars. However, the lecture refutes this point saying that the humpbacks are navigating by other things rather than the stars.
First, the reading states that the humpbacks are intelligent enough to use the stars while the are migrating. For example, they can use night sky for their orientation. But, the lecture opposes. It claims that there is no connection between the whales intelligent and their ability to navigate. For example, ducks are not that intelligent and they are able to navigate.
Second, the reading states that humpbacks are able to navigate in straight line because they use the stars as an external objects to help them. Yet, the lecture refutes. It claims that for animals to move in straight lines they need to send some external forces. For example, the humpbacks have bio magnitude force in their brains which help them to navigate by using the earth magnetic field.
Third the reading contends that humpbacks exhibit spy hoping. It is unusual behavior help them to navigate by looking at the stars. On the other hand, the professor opposes. He says that spy hopping is a rare behavior. It is exhibit in some sharks to help them look for animals they want to hunt. It is poor speculation that humpbacks are using spy hooping to navigate.
