Internet users as percentage of population
The line graph compares the USA, Canada and Mexico in terms of their proportion of population that used internet in the period from 1999 to 2009.
Overall, it can be seen that the proportions in all 3 countries followed a similar trend of a general increase. Moreover, the figure for Mexico was the lowest throughout the period.
In 1999, around 5% of the Mexicans used Internet, making Mexico the country with lowest percentage of population being Internet users among the 3 countries. The figure for Canada was slightly higher, at 10%, while that of the USA was 4 times higher, at around 20%, being the highest among these countries’.
From 1999 to 2009, the proportions in the 3 countries increased. From being the country with the second highest percentage, Canada rose to the top in 2002, surpassing the USA. In 2009, around 90% of the population of Canada used Internet, 9 times higher than the percentage in 1999. The figures for the USA and Mexico were 80% and 40%, respectively. Mexico kept being the country with the smallest proportion of population using Internet.
