Both the reading and the listening discuss whether team working is beneficial or not. The author describes that there are three main reasons to support the idea that working people in a group has several advantages. However, the lecturer casts doubt on this claim and brings up three reasons and elucidates some evidence in order to refute what is mentioned in the reading passage.
First of all, the writer states that a group of people is skilful enough to deal well with the problems, due to the fact that a variety of knowledge and experience are provided. Nevertheless, the professor points out that in the teamwork there are some people that who are free riders and they get benefit from being in the group. As a matter of fact, some people in the group have good insights into issues, and as a whole, no name is distinguished from others and individuals who have a real contribution to the projects feel opposite to the reading.
Second, the author argues that group can work quickly, owing to the fact that the tasks are assigned to the members. While the lecturer brings up the idea that it takes too long to reach a consensus on the different issues. To be more specific, many meetings must be held so as to help the group to build an agreement. Furthermore, always one or two individuals manage the meetings and they are very influential than other members, therefore other members strive to convince others to be in agreement with those powerful individuals, which in this case the project continues in the way that some few people want and they ignore the others opinions.
Third, the author argues that participating in the group process provide a situation for the members to have more chance to shine. However, the speaker posits that some influential individuals make the important decisions and do not pay attention to the rest of the group but if the group failed, blame is placed to all of the members of the group.
Therefore, the points in the reading do not make sense.
