Ways to eliminating the destructive effect of the glass architectures for the flying birds.
Both the passage and the talk dicuss the ways to reduce the harm of glass structures to birds. The composer contends that there are three ways to eliminate the injuries to the birds which are result of crash by transparent buildings. The lecturer, however, refutes the author's assessments. He demonstrates a reason for every solution, which is suggested by the author, to cast doubt on the claims made in the reading.
The first allegation of the script against which the orator argues is that the on-way glasses can be used, because birds can not see the inside of the glass, thereby avoid of hitting them. In contrast, the professor highlights the fact that these kind of glasses act like mirror and could be as harmful as regualr glasses for the birds. For instance, when the image of sky or trees is reflected in the mirror flying birds can not distinguish between those images and the reallity, so they would have accident with glasses.
Second, according to the text, colorful designs can help the birds to recognize the obstacle in their way. The speaker, however, finds this idea debatable. He bolsters his opinion by statying that, the opinings which are between the thin painted stripes can be again the source of confusion for the birds, so much so that birds try to cross through those holes and they would be harmed again. Furthermore, if we try to reduce the size of the holes to avoid this, the inside of the building would be dark.
Lastly, the lecture contradicts this fallacy of the passage that creating magnetic fields can be useful, stating that birds use this kind of navigation in the long distances. For example, when they travel far away from a dry climate to a cold place they use the magnetic field of the earth, but in the short distances birds usually use their eyes to find the places they go.
