The given line graph illustrates the number of three different types of crimes happened in England and Wales over the course of 35 years starting in 1970.
Looking at the graph, it’s immediately obvious that the quantity of street robberies was by far lowest over the time frame. Additionally, the figure for car theft experienced the most noticeable change.
In 1970, the crime rate of car theft stood at approximately 0.4 million while the figures for house burgling and street robbery were much lower, with roughly 0.2 and 0.1 million respectively. From 1970 to 1995, gradual increases were witnessed in the quantity of car theft and house burgling but this number for car theft was significantly higher, considerably a peak of 1.6 million crimes in 1995. At the same time, there was little change in the figure for street robbery.
The number of crimes fell dramatically over the next 10 years, by around 0.6 million in car theft and nearly 0.2 million in house burgling. By contrast, the quantity of street robbery registered a slight rise, reaching 0.2 million in 2005.
