The table illustrates performance of top ten success nations in Olympic competition 2012. The information presenting achievements divide into four categories: gold medals, silver medals, bronze medals, and total medals.
According to gold medals, four leading nations were United States, China, Great Britain, and Russia obtained 46, 38, 29, and 24, respectively. For other nations, they gained about a half of or less than a half of Russia: South Korea (13), Germany (11), France (11), Italy (8), Hungary (8), and Australia (7).
For the silver medals, United States, China, and Russia were the top three nations winning second place awards with 29, 27, and 26 pieces, respectively. The following group was including Germany, Great Britain, and Australia. All of these countries gained approximate 17 medals. The other lower ranking nations achieved less than 12 medals. Regarding bronze medals, Russia won most awards with 32 pieces, following by 29 medals of US, and 23 medals of China. The other nations won third place less than 20 times per nation.
In conclusion, even though United States, China, and Russia brought most medals back home, but final ranking was prioritized by amount of winning awards rather than total piece of medals.
