The table indicates information about changes in models of travel in England between 1985 and 2000. Overall, an average English person in 2000 traveled much more than in 1985.

In 1985, a person traveled 4740 totally in average. Car was the most common vehicle, which accounted for 3199 out of 4740 miles. Walking, local bus and train were the typical means of transport, which a person traveled 255, 429 and 289 miles, respectively. Bicycle, long distance bus and taxi were uncommon vehicles while their distance traveled per person were only 51, 54 and 14 miles. Other modes of travel accompanied 450 miles per person.

In 2000, there had been a sharp increase in travelling while the distance an average person covered raised from 4740 to 6475. The number of distance travelled by car went up, either, from 3199 in 1985 to 4806 in 2000. Walking, local bus and train were still common modes of travel, but contrary to the increase in the distance covered by train, from 289 to 366 miles, walking and local bus became less common. Taxi and long distance bus had witnessed and increase, 13 to 42 miles and 54 to 124 miles respectively, bicycle were less used as a mean of transport, the distance went down from 51 to 41. Others accounted for 585 miles per person, which is 135 miles more than 1985.
