The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030.
The line graph describes information about six types of fossil fuels and renewable sources in terms of the amount being consumed in America from 1980 to 2030 according to a 2008 report.
Overall, it is clear that petrol and oil and oil accounts the largest proportion of the Energy consumption. Furthermore, while the usage of renewable resources remains comparatively stable, an increasing trend can be observed in fossil fuels usage.
Petrol and oil are the most important energy sources throughout the period: despite fluctuation in the first 15 years, the consumption of these two fuels rose steadily, and this is projected to persist, reaching 50q in 2030. In 1980, the energy consumption generated by Coal was slightly higher than Natural Gas (20 quadrillion units compared with 15 quadrillion units). While the amount of coal consumed is predicted to climb to 30 quadrillion units in 2030, the figure for natural gas will remain stable/ unchanged at 25 quadrillion units.
Other fuel sources are less significant with the figures of less than 5 quadrillion units. Nuclear power consumption saw a steady increase to around 8q in 2005 and maintained this level until 2015, after which the level of consumption will experience an insignificant change. The use of solar/wind and hydropower is limited, with the figures being anticipated to around 5 quadrillion units and 4 quadrillion units to 2030.
