little ice age and cause of it
Both the reading and the lecture discuss little ice age that lasted from about 1359 until 199 C.E. the reading talk about three reasons all of which caused the little ice age. The professor, in the contrast, says that the information in the reading is out-of-date and denies each reason of it.
In the first place, the reading clams that the melted glaciers channeled a large amount of freshwater into Gulf Stream by which the earth's climate was affected strongly. It can be the cause of little ice age. The professor refutes this by saying that gulf stream only could affect the Europe and North America, so it is not a good reason to explain other part of the world by experiencing little ice age.
Secondly, according to the passage, the dust produced by volcanic eruptions could block some sunlight which could make the earth's temperature lower. The professor disagrees with this also by stating that the large amount of dust of volcanic eruption can appear only along with some other evidence like dramatic snow; but there aren't any report of the past about such evidence. It shows that the amount of dust wasn't enough at all to make earth encounter such low temperature.
Thirdly, the passage says that the lower population just before the ice age in comparison its previous population, made many forest's trees untouched. These trees absorbed carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas, and accordingly the effect of such a gas decreased on the earth, temperature reduced. The professor denies this claim by explaining that the decreased population after a while increased quickly which forced people to cut dawn more trees. In fact, there wasn't adequate time to provide proper condition of affection of the reduced greenhouse gas.
