Psychologist have known for many years that colour can effect how people feel. For this reason, attention should be given to colour schemes when decorating places such as offices and hospitals.
How true is statement?
How far does colour influence people’s health and capacity for work?
Colour is generally believed to be one of several factors that can influence people’s feeling and people’s decision. This belief has applied by companies in their products to attrack buyers since many years before. In shop, for instance, many products are sold in various colours, so buyers can buy product that the colour appropriates with them. However, apllying colours in office and hospital buildings seems just giving less impact on workers and patients, or in other words, it is not too important.
As a matter of fact, many offices, especially in Indonesia, are painted in white colour while some others are decorated in wooden theme. It is not a matter for workers whether the wall’s colour, they can do their job well. So, what are the matters can influnce employees performance?
Workers daily activities in office are so busy with many projects and deadlines. For support their work, the most vital thing that shoud be available is electronic equipment such as computers, telephones, and printer. Also, offices provide the comfortable working places for their employees so that they can keep staying focus to finish their job effectively. We often see in offices that many desks and chairs for employees are available in ergonomic designs. Besides, Air conditioners are provided to maintain the fresh air in rooms.
In hospital cases, many pastel colours are used to make patients feel calm. The colours such as white, soft blue, and soft pink are commonly used in hospital. However, basically, patients do not take much attention for that, service from nurses and quality of doctors are more essential for them. What is more, the hygiene in hospital is one of the most important factors that makes them feel better.
To sum up, I would conclude that it is true that colour can change both how people feel and decide. However, the function of colour seems not too working to increase worker’s performance or to influence people’s health.
