You are working for a company. You need to take some time off work and want to ask your manager about this. Write a letter to your manager. In your letter:
- explain why you want to take some time off work;
- give details of the amount of time you need;
- suggest how your work could be covered while you are away.
Dear Mr. Jackson,
I am writing to ask about the possibility of my absence from the company between August 1st and August 22nd. My request is because my wife is going to enter into the hospital due to labor and give birth to our firt son.
Let me explain the situation in more details. In advance, I appologize for this solicitation in such a important period, since we will be in the middle of a workshop which will develop our skills so as the other staff members, but I wouldn't ask you if it wasn't necesseray.
So, as the period needed, by law I have one week off from work to support my wife, although, this seems to be not enough. Along with this week away, I will ask for another two weeks of absence in order to assist my wife and newborn son with anything they need after they be release from the hospital and get back at home. Thus, this extra time off will be used from my vacation days.
At last, might I suggest somene to absob my tasks while I'm at home? I already talked to Barbara and Gustavo regarding this matter and they can help covering my work. Besides, I know they will be more than qualifed and I trust them with my tasks. Plus, in cases of emergencies, I told them that they are allowed to call me if they necessitate my help with a client or an unfamiliar job.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Rafael
