Dudos' extinction
The author of the reading and the lecturer both are about reasons for extinction of the bird dudo. The author suggests that the human hunting was the main reasons for the dudo’s extinction whereas the lecturer states there are some other factors responsible for the extinction of bird dudo. The lecturer has effectively challenged the main idea of the reading passage by providing cogent reasons with examples.
First of all, according to the author, human hunting is the main reason for the extinction of the of dudo. Author states one reason for the dodo fell victim of hunting is flightless. However, the lecturer has disputes this point. Lecture argues that the taste of the dudo was horrible and there were so many other species available so as to hunt. Hence, he mentions why would people hunt horrible tasting dudo if there were other species of birds who taste much more better than dudo.
Second, the reading passage suggests that unusual friendliness is another reason that which made people to hunt them. Nevertheless, the lecturer refutes this claim in the passage. He feels that friendliness did not mean they were never vulnerable to the people. He adds, it was not that much easy to attack dudo of that size. IN addition, lecture states that the actual reason of their extinction was dudos were having problem in re population which results their extinction.
Finally, the author of the passage claims evidences found in the cave of Europe showed dudos were hunted by the people. On other hand, the lecturer disagree with this point in the passage. She believes the remains of the dudo found in the caves of Europe were actually left by the some other predators not human. In addition she thinks loss of habitats was the main reason for their extinction.
In conclusion, although the author and the lecturer both were about extinction of bird dudo in seventeenth century, the lecture has casted doubt on the main idea of the passage.
