The line chart illustrates data on the number of incidents made by three kinds of crime in Newport city between 2003 and 2012. Overall, the number of burglary cases in this city dropped significantly, while car theft and robbery remained relatively constant throughout 9 years.
In the 2003-2006 period, although burglary experienced a sharp decline in the number of incidents, its rate always remained above the rate of other crime. Over nine years, Newport city saw a marked fall in the number of burglary with the notable exception of 2004 when it reached the highest point of the whole line graph at around 3800 incidents. After that, there was a gradual decline in the rates of burglary, which fell to the lowest point (about 1100 incidents) by the year 2008. This figure fluctuated slightly in the next 4 years before went down to almost 1500 cases in 2012.
Over the same period, the rates of car theft and robbery varied less significantly than that of burglary. From 2003, car theft remained steady before reaching the bottom at about 2000 cases in 2006. The rate of this crime climbed up steeply throughout the remaining period and in 2012, it nearly owned a similar rate of crime as it used to be in 2003 (almost 3000 cases). Likewise, Newport also saw a similar figure for robbery in 2003 and 2012 (about 600 incidents). Although Robbery rate stayed unchanged in 9 years, it reached the low point of incidents at 500 cases in 2008.
