Nowadays, young people spend more time in shopping malls. Some people fear that it can cause a negative impact on young people and the society they live in. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
In recent times, the trend of spending leisure time in shopping malls has increased significantly. It is argued by some, that this will be detrimental for youngsters as well as the community they belong to. In my opinion, I partially agree with this argument.
To begin with, it is essential for us to rejuvenate ourselves, whenever we have free time. There are many ways to do so. For example going to cinema, visiting a resturant, shopping, and attending a social event. However, in order to do so in the past, one had to travel from place to place in a busy city traffic as these activities were seldom present under one roof. With introduction of shopping malls, nowadays it is possible to find almost all of these leisure activities within a single campus. It saves a lot of time and money.
Furthermore, due to avilability of multiple shopping options under one roof, there is a cut-throat competition between commercial brands. This is very beneficial for consumers, as these companies are providing attractive discounts and offers every now and then, in hope of boosting sales at their stores. However, there are some drawbacks of this mall culture too. For instance, it is giving rise to binge shopping habbits in some individuals. Also, instead of engaging into sports or creative activities, youngsters are preferring to stroll in an air conditioned shopping complex to spend their free time.
To conclude, although the shopping malls provide a convenient option to spend free time, it is making youth lazy and less creative. I believe that, there is a need of establishing an equillibrium between various options for young people to utilize their free time.
