The line graph illustrates the amount of goods that was transported by four different means of transportation in the UK between 1974 and 2002. All measures in million tons.
Overall, it can be seen that, despite some fluctuations, over the period as a whole the amount of transported goods rose by all four types of transport.
Road transportation stood at about 70 in 1974 while water transportation accounted for approximately 38. Then they both increased with some fluctuation over the next 24 years to about 50 (water) and 95 (road). For the following 4 years road transportation raised slightly to finish the period at just under 100 while water transportation experienced gradual growth and accounted for about 64 the same year.
With regards to rail and pipeline transportation, they begun at 40 and 5 in 1974. However, for the next 21 years the gap closed as the pipeline transportation climber exponentially to about 21 by 1995 while rail transportation declined with some fluctuation to about 24. Then for the following 7 years pipeline transportations stayed constant, by contrast, rail transportation witnessed significant improvement to finish period at just under 40.
