Hi Jim,
I'm sorry for missing your birthday, and I hope you will be so generous to give me a chance to make up for it.
If you remember, I was waiting for my girlfriend last month, whom I haven't seen for roughly one year. Honestly, I was completely immersed in our relationship and forgot about everything except her. We spent all previous days together, so I even missed my classes at school. I would have continued this irresponsible behavior if my teacher hadn't called my parents yesterday. And then, I remembered about such an important day for me as your birthday.
Thankfully, I know that you are a really kind friend. So, let me invite you to a wonderful dinner in a new fantastic restaurant. I'm sure, you haven't been there before. Although I need to compensate for all the lessons I missed, I think that I will have managed all of it before the next week.
