The reading passage explores three behaviors ascribed to the fascinating elephants. However, the lecturer contradicts with all the assertion by giving three points as supports.
First of all, the passage claims that because old elephants are aware of their approaching death, they separate themselves from the herd and stay lonely beside the water as their graveyard until to die. On the other hand, the professor brings practical reason for this elephants behavior. Accordingly, she states that because it is difficult for old elephants to eat whatever the younger ones eat, therefor they look for softer vegetables for eating and because softer vegetables are found in the water they tend to go near water.
Additionally, the reading mentions that elephants have artistic talent to draw with their trunk. While, the professor explains that elephant are trained to paint and because they have sensitive ears the coach encourage them to repeat the pattern of painting by touching their ears. So, it do not mean they know what they paint.
Finally, the author of the passage points out the elephants' fear of mice due to reaction they show when they confront with some mice, although they never show this kind of response to the more dangerous animals like lions. However, the professor consider this idea misinterpretation and says that elephants react fearfully when they are unfamiliar with object. Therefor, it is kind of their cautiousness and if they acquaint with mice just like lion they do not mind them.
