TPO 37- One of the threats to endangered sea turtle species is the use of nets by commercial shrimp-fishing boats. When turtles get accidentally caught in the nets, they cannot rise to the surface of the ocean to breathe, and they die. Some people suggest
The article speaks about one of the threate to turtle speciesthat lived in ocean and the possiblity of killing these animals by using nets. These nets are used for trapping shrimps. The passage suggests applying of a turtle excluder device (TED) for solving this problem and also provides three theories about the usefulness of these methods. The professor in the talk proposes that using TED method is a good way for preventing rurtle's death. So, the professor explains reasons for supporting TED method.
First, the reading asserts that the number of these turtles that trapped in nets are small and there is no need of using TED invention. However, the lecture rejects this idea by stating that the number of all the turtles that live in icean are very little in comparison with the number of shrimps. Also, the number of these turtles that trapped in nets is high. As a result the professor thinks using TED technique is a suitable way for keeping turtles alive.
Second, the text suggests that shortening the time that nets are under water is an effective solution. However the speech refures this method, too by explaining that there are a lot of boats and monitoring the time of fishing is not possible for government so, as you can see this method is useless. To solve this problem professor asserts that monitoring nets is a practical way. So, all boats just need to TED nets.
Third, the passage suggests that there are some big turtle in many areas and the regular TED nets are not suitable. However, the woman in the conversation has a different idea. She mentions that by replacing these TED nets with big TED nets this problem is solved.
