It can clearly be seen that there was an opposite trend in the rate of british students able to speak languages other than english in a university in england over a decade. In particular, spanish reached the highest point of students’ ability in 2010 while germany, french, no other language sector experienced the lowest figure.
In 2000, the highest category was Spanish, which represented 30% of the proportion of people able to speak other languages in addition to English. Meanwhile, the proportion of students who do not know any languages other than English was 20%, which was at least twice as high as those can speak Germany. French and another language sector had a fairly equal proportion of students who can speak foreign languages, which made up 10%.
During 2010, Span experienced a significant increase to 35% of students who able to speak languages other than English, while there was a considerable decline by 5% in the figure for French. The percentage of people cannot speak any other languages besides their native languages was 10%, which was just a half of that for those able to speak another language.
