TOEFL TPO 33- Integrated Writing Task
The passage discusses carved stone balls found in different locations in Scotland. The archaeologists have different ideas about these stone's meaning. The text provides three reasons to explain the meaning of these artifacts. However, the professor refutes all of the author's reasons.
First, the passage asserts these stone balles used as wapons for hunting or fighting. While the lecture rejevcts this idea by stating that the surface of these tools are very smooth. If these tools used for these goals we could see signs on the surface of these devices.
Second, the readinf contends maybe these artifacts were used as measuring tools. However, the talk rebuts this bt expaining that these tools are made up of different stones. So, they were different in their dencity. As aresult, these objects were not suitable for determining weight or whatever else. As you can see, the text's idea is not convincing.
Third, the reading claims these objects show the status of their owners. The passage describes that there are many elaborating signs on the surface of these tools that we can consider them as something for indicating the owner prestige in society. While the teacher refutes this by saying that if thede tools are something for showing their prestige, we will see most of them with very detailed signs. But most of them are very simple. Furthermore, the professor states that if someone died he would burried with his/her valuable posession. But there are no evidences of finding these stone objects in graves. So, the reading's reason is impractical.
