TPO 01 Integrated Writing
new Roman",serif">Recently, there has been a ton of debate as to the four day work week in the United states. More specifically, in response to the reading, the writer points out that a policy about four day workweek with less payment will benefit the company as a whole. In the listening, however, the speaker is quick to point there are several flaws in the authors claim. In fact, the professor believes that it would bring more difficulties than good to the company, and addresses, in detail, the trouble each point made in the reading text.
new Roman",serif"> First and foremost, the writer in the reading passage states that the employees would be more rested and relaxed if they work on four days in a week which will make them more conscious about their work resulting in less error. The professor, however, explains that this will be added as an extra requirement to recruit new worker to produce same amount of work output. He goes on to say that more money will be required for the training and providing health facilities to the workers added with extra space and computers.
new Roman",serif"> Secondly, one group of scholars, represented by the author, think that this new policy will reduce unemployment. The professor, on the other hand, stand in firm opposition to this claim. According to the professor, the policy may raise the expectation of the company to produce same amount of output from the employees within this four day as it is expected to increase their efficiency resulting in no increase in job scope.
new Roman",serif"> Finally, the writer wraps his claim positing that four day workweek will be good for individual employee as they will have more free time to spend with their family. Not surprisingly, the speaker takes issue with this claim by contending that more free time will hamper their career growth since five day workweek employees are in position for consistent supervising.
new Roman",serif"> To sum up, both the author and writer have conflicting views about the four day workweek idea. it is clear that they will have trouble finding common ground on this issue. new Roman",serif">
