International migration in UK
The chart illustrates the net migration, immigration and emigration of UK between 1999 and 2008. Both immigration and emigration rates rose over the period shown, but the figures for immigration were significantly higher. The net migration peaked at 2004 and 2007.
In 1999, over 450,000 people came to live in UK, while the number of emigration people stood at around 300,000. On the one hand the figure for net migration was around 160,000 and it remained at similar level until 2003. On the other hand, both figures of immigration and emigration increased gradually over period between 1999 and 2003.
Net migration had a significant peak in 2004 and 2007, which peaked at nearly 250,000. Also, the immigration rate climbed up nearly 600,000 which happened the same in 2006. Nonetheless, the emigration rate still remained unchanged at around 350,000 until 2006, it peaked at 400,000. Nevertheless, it fell back to around 330,000 and kept growing over 400,000.
