The bar chart compares the worldwide sales of the mobile, online, console and handheld video games (in billions of dollars) from 2000 to 2006.
Overall, the most popular digital entertainment was handheld games. While the sales of console games tend to decrease, the number of three remain types increased over 7 years.
Between 2000 and 2002, sales of console games reduced slowly from 6 to around 5 billion while the figure for handheld games grew rapidly from just below 12 to 14 billion. In 2001, the appearance of online games which its sales were 0,5 billion. In the next year, the number of online games had the same figure for a new type of digital games (mobile phone).
From 2003 to 2006, while sales of handheld games gradually rose to reach a peak of 18 billion, the number of console games went down quickly to 3 billion. During this time, there was a dramatic climb in sales of mobile phone and online games from around 3 billion (2003) to 7 and 9 billion (2006), respectively.
