The graph below gives the information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with a projection until 2030.
The given line graph illustrates the major six categories of fuel consumption trend in US since 1980 along with their predictions till 2030.
Overall, petrol and oil is the major source of fuel followed by coal and natural gases. All the sources depict a positive prediction except for hydro power.
Petrol and oils have always been the major source of fuel in the US. Starting with 35 quadrillion in 1980, it follows a slight fluctuations in early years till 1995, with a gradual rise to 40 quadrillion in 2005. It is estimated to summit 50 quadrillion in 2030. Coal too shows a significant rise to 30 quadrillion usage in 2030 leaving behind the natural gases which had 20 quadrillion consumption compared to 15 quadrillion of coal in 1980. Undulating consumption pattern in natural gases were observed in early years with steady use of 25 quadrillion projected from 2015 to 2030.
Other energy sources like nuclear, solar/wind and hydro power had a minimum use of 4 quadrillion each in 1980. A seamless rise in nuclear and solar/wind sources was observed till 2010 with alike increment projected in following years attaining 6 and 5 quadrillion respectively in last year. However, the development in the hydro power sector is negative with a drop to 3 quadrillion till 2010 and no any sign of rise in consumption in the future.
