The graph provides the data on the portion of households in rented and owned houses in Wales and England from 1918 to 2011. Overall, it is clear that the number of owned households increased, while the number of rented houses decreased.
The most notable point is that more and more people tended to have their own houses. Specifically, the percentage of owned households begun at roughly 22 % in 1918, followed by at approximately 32 % in 1939 and 1953. The owned household portion steadily rose at from 40 % to about 69 % between 1961 and 2001. After that, the ratio declined a little bit roughly 64 % in 2011.
Another thing to note is that people were less likely to rent their houses. Looking more closely, for example, the portion of rented houses was approximately 76 % in 1918, and then ti kept about 67% at 1939 and 1953. From 1953 to 2001, the percentage rate of rented households continued to decrease, and in 2011, the rate recovered a bit to roughly 35 %.
Interestingly, in 1971, the portion of rented and owned was the same at 50 % in 1971.
