Essay topics:

The graphs below shows the percentage of boys and girls aged 5-14 who participated in organized cultural activities and sports in 2003 in Australia. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The given bar charts illustrate the figures for Australian children between 5 and 14 years old according to gender and cultural activity measured in 2003.

It can clearly be seen that 5-to-14-year-old boys had higher proportion of sport participation and playing musical instrument reached the highest point in this group while dancing accounted for the most considerable proportion of girls aged 5 to 14.

According to the first chart, the most striking point is that the percentage of dancing in girl group totally dominated that in boy group (approximately 25% and 3%, respectively). In addition, the figure for girls participating in playing musical instrument was about 10%, which was just two-thirds of that in boys (around 15%). However, drama and singing had a fairly equal percentage of 5-to-14-year-old participants in both genders, which made up nearly 5%.

As illustrated in the second chart, the proportion of 5-to-14-year-old boys participating in sport reached the 70% marks while that in girl group was about 52%. As a whole, both boys and girls inclined to participate in playing musical instrument while dancing attracted only girls.
