The graph and table below give information about water use worldwide and water
consumption in two different countries.
The graph illustrates the changes of water use worldwide over a century span shown. The table presents the breakdown of water consumption in Brazil and Congo in 2000.
Overall, the trend of global water use in agriculture, industrial and domestic use increased. The water use in agriculture, industrial and domestic sectors was at a low level at the beginning, especially the industrial and domestic ones. The century saw a dramatic increase in global water use by agriculture, with 3000 km³ of water in 2000, which was almost 6 times more than it was 100 years ago. The growth of industrial and domestic use was stable at the previous five years. It was not until 1960 that water use in industrial and domestic sector started to climb faster, the growth rate of industrial use as twice as that in domestic use.
It is obvious that Brazil has a much bigger number than Congo, no matter in population, irrigated land or water consumption per person. Brazil has a population almost more than 30 times than that in Congo. However , the water consumption per capita is more than 40 times than that in Congo.
