Nowadays animal experiments are widely used to develop new medicines and to test the safety of other products. Some people argue that these experiments should be banned because it is morally wrong to cause animals to suffer, while others are in favour of them because of their benefits to humanity. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
As the modern medicine develops, animals have been involved in the medical experiments more frequently. And it has triggered a discussion on whether we should test a new drug or treatment on animals, such as pigs, mice and monkeys.
Generally, morality is why people would oppose these experiments. Critics deem animals’ suffering as abusing, which is morally wrong. People would never use human in medicine trail. But why does the animal have to go through all this while they have nothing to do with the benefits of the experiments. From my point of view, these people only see a part of the story.
I also have pity on for the suffering of the animals which are suffering. But,But what lies behind the phenomenon is the rule of the world. We are learning and developing as the leader of the planet, at the cost of other creatures, as every species do since the outset of history. Someone may differ: we have been the advanced and civilized ones, ones; therefore, we should not act brutally like a savage. Unfortunately, we have compromised interests of other animals on earth in different forms since we found ourselves the most powerful living form in the world. And medicine trail with living animals happens to be one of them, a direct one though. We invade animals’ residence and discharge poisonous fluid and gas into waters and air, fazing the ecological system and natural environment. The expanding of human’s living area and the evolution of technologies are the indirect, soft form of animals’ mishap. Stopping these sorts of experiments, from what I can see, can change little to the plight of the rest of the world.
What is more, sacrifices of animals may be the pivotal part of the medical advancement. A new drug or medical treatment that is controversial may never be put into use even if they are harmless to people and can save millions lives because the experiments are banned. In this case, sacrifices of mice could translate into the success of a drug, helping people in pain.
All in all, I am in favour of animal experiment, for the development of our society. However, we would never forget the animals that contributed their lives to us on the course of medical progress.
