The diagrams show the cross-sections of two tunnels, one joining France and Italy and the other joining two Japanese islands.
The two tunnels’ cross-sections is illustrates by the diagrams. While figure 1 describes a road tunnel called Mont-Blanc, which connects French and Italian together, the other demonstrates a railway tunnel namely seikan, which is the connection between Japanese’s Hokkaido Island and Japanese Island.
Generally, it can be seen clearly from the charts that the railway tunnel is longer than the road one, and the constructed time of the seikan tunnel is respectively last longer than the other.
Particularly, the Mont-Blanc tunnel was begun to be built in 1957 which is 11 years after the seikan tunnel started to construct. However, it took only eight years to finish the road tunnel whereas it was not until 1988 that the railway tunnel had been used.
Despite that fact, the seikan was built 240 meters under the sea with 53.85 kilometers long constrasted to the Mont-Blanc with the length of 11.60 kilometers, and the depth of 3.5 kilometers from the top of the mountain.
