Task 1: The chart below show the proportions of British students at one university in England who were able to speak other languages in addition to English, in 2000 and 2010.
The chart gives information about the percentage of British students who can speak languages other than English at one university in England in the years 2000 and 2010.
Overall, the proportion of British Students speaking both English and Spanish topped the table over the timescale while German language was always one of the least common choices of university students.
Besides English, Spanish language attracted most of the university students, which accounted for one-third in 2000 and rose to 35% in the next ten years. Moreover, the percentage of British students that chose to learn another language and two other languages in addition to English experienced the same amount of increase by five percent from 2000 to 2010, making up 20% and 15% of the total, respectively.
In comparison, the proportion of French choice among students comprised 15% in 2000 before hitting a low – point of 10% in 2010, which was the same as the amount of students that spoke English only percentage-wise. Interestingly, the figure of German speaker remained constant in both years at 10%.
