The passage claims that the population of birds is decreasing in the United States because of using pesticide by pointing out three reasons for support. The lecture, on the other hand, states that the mentioned theories in the passage are unconvincing and refutes each of the author's reasons.
The passage claims that the population of birds is decreasing in the United States because of using pesticide by pointing out three reasons for support. The lecture, on the other hand, states that the mentioned theories in the passage are unconvincing and refutes each of the author's reasons.
First of all, the writer goes on to mention that natural habitats of birds will be destroyed as the human population and settlements expanding. On the contrary, the professor rejects this by explaining that the growing human population and expanding rural areas provide better and larger habitats for some species of birds like penguins. Therefore, the population of some birds will diminish, hence, others will grow. Growing in population of some special kinds of birds also is beneficial for their predators and bring them an available source of food, which leads to expanding their population.
Furthermore, the reading argues that the growing human population will increase agricultural activities, which could transfer some part of natural habitats into areas that use for agriculture. Conversely, the professor supports an opposite view as compared to that presented in the passage; he describes that with the introduction of new crops and more variety of them, less and less areas will be used for agriculture every year.
Finally, the author explains that chemical pesticides, which use of them increase with expanding in human settlement, will poisoned insects and contaminated drink water and enter into the food chain for birds. The speaker, in contrast, rejects the author's view and illustrates the idea that nowadays people are more aware of using pesticides. As a result, two changes have occurred: new pesticide are inventing which is not harmful to nature and growing trends which leads to growing pest resistance crops.
