The lecture and the article are both about the effect of declining in reading literature and the effect of this on the society. The author feels that reading letrature have a lot of good effect on the society and if people do not read poems and novels, they will be out of culture and provide three reasons to explain this idea. The lecturer challenges the claims made by article, he is of the opinion that these expalnations are faulty.
To begin with, the writer claims that litrature can increase our standing of language and our imagination and if the society don not read the litrature, they will miss crucial benefits. The specific argument is challenged by the lecture, he claims that in addition of literature, other books can increase our imagination and ignite curiosity for example, scientific books.
Secondly, the author states that many people are now more likely on the TV and musics and it is harmful for culture. The lecture, however, rebuts this by mentioning that nowadays the concept of culture is changing and we can find the rich source of culture in the music and melodies.
Last but not least, the author posits that the writing is likely to decline because of poor standards of poor reader. In contrast, the lecturer position is that the cause of publisher decline in supporting the writers is the writers faults. Additionally readind and understanding of modern poems are very difficult.
