The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use. Summarise this information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The two pie charts demonstrate Australian household energy use and their greenhouse gas emissions from different purposes.

Looking at the charts, it is easy to see that the most energy usage in households is in heating, which is 42% of the energy. Water heating also uses a significant portion of the total energy, 30%. Cooling and lighting has a small energy usage as compared to the two major energy consumptions. Refrigeration accounts for 7% of the energy usage. Then there are other appliances for which 15% of the energy is consumed.

From the greenhouse gas emission chart, the most greenhouse gas is released by water heating, 32%. Although in terms of energy usage heating consumes the most energy, the greenhouse gas emitted by this process is much less compared to its consumption. Other appliances, though small in energy usage, are responsible for a significant amount of greenhouse gas emission, which is in the second position. Then there is refrigeration, which emits 14% of the greenhouse gas. Lighting and cooling consist the rest of greenhouse gas emission, which account for a very small proportion of the emission.
