The article claims that nuclear energy should be considered as the solution to energy production and also it is the next logical step for the evolution of energy prodution. The speaker refutes to this claim by saying that the reasons that the article suggests are not well thought out and opposes to each point.
First, the article says that nuclear energy is cheaper compared to the fossil fuels because it is abundant. The lecturer opposes to this notion by arguing that nuclear energy is not cheaper and the building of nuclear facilities demand much more time and expertise and money. Furthermore, the legislation in many countries helps to fund the emergency plans which has a significant cost.
Second, the article claims that the production process of nuclear energy is safe. The speaker refutes to this cliam by explaining that accidents still happen and that currently, preventing catastrophes can be davastating. He continues to explain by giving an example. He says that the PDR experiment released a small amount of radiation which was not a threat to the public. however, the financial damage was huge and cost 1 billion dollars.
Third, the article asserts that the dangerous radioactive waste can be managed. The speaker challenges this notion by stating that the waste is not easily managed and that the waste poses real danger .Even after reprocessing the nuclear waste it still poses a real danger has to be buried deep under ground where it can remain for hundreads of years.
