summarize the points made in the lecture about save all species that may become extinct, being sure to
explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading about safeguarding of endangered species .
The article states that saving endangered species are unnatural and has several disadvantages and provides three reasons for support. However, the professor explains that contrarily to article people should prevent from extinction of animals whenever possible. Also he mentions that loss of each species has real consequences and refutes each of the author's reason.
First, the reading states that many claim extinctions of each animal leads to ecological disaster but it is exaggeration. The professor refutes this point by indicating that although author support his attitude by giving an example of dinosaurs, their extinction led to dramatic shift of organisms that dominated the earth surface. He then explains that since we currently dominate the earth, we should maintain of animals which means preserving our own life from peril.
Second, the article claims that technologies such as genetic engineering make scientist independent of nature for source of medication. However, the professor contends that it is true that genetic is an important field, but still nature has its own power in medication. The professor mentions that now 40 percent of drugs are composed of natural materials from plants. He highlights that only a small percentage of plants have been studied for their medical applications and everyday one hundred species become extinct, so each extinction of species deprive us from noticeable opportunity for medical research.
Third, the reading avers that huge cost which spends to support endangered species is often not justified. The lecture opposes this point by saying that fresh water mussel is more important for economic advantages. Unfortunately, 43 percent of fresh water is endangered or already extinct and still remaining species creates 10000 jobs and add 700 million to the U.S economy. According to the professor, these species along with many others deserve to be saved if only for economic purpose.
