torreya plant
The lecturer, as well as the reading, are about some solutions to avoid Torreya plant will become extinct. The reading states that there are three ways to allow Torreya plant to survive. In contrast to the reading, the professor suggests that using either of these ways, it would be impossible to get good outcomes. The lecturer supports her argument by providing some reasons.
First of all, the reading claim that if the Torreya is reestablished in the same location, it would be a great solution for this native area. However, the lecturer refutes this point. She says that with the current global warming, the overall temperature is increasing. Thus the microclimate will not get as they think. Furthermore, she points out that some wetlands have been drained.
Secondly, according to the reading, another option is moving this plant to a different location, further north. Nevertheless, the lecturer disputes this argument. She argues that there is a case where some scientists moved a black locust tree to another region, but it will not work since this plant began to kill other native plants. In addition, she mentions that it will be so difficult to obtain success in this case.
Finally, the reading states that this plant can preserve in research centers. Nonetheless, the lecturer believes that Torreya will not prevent some diseases since this plant needs a large area to prevent it. She says that the research centers will not have the capability to maintain inside.
