You work for an international company, and would like to spend six months working in its head office in another country.
Write a letter to your manager. In your letter:
• explain why you want to work in the company’s head office for six months
• say how your work could be done while you are away
• ask for his/her help in arranging it
Dear Mr. Roberts,
I am writing to ask for your permission to work in our head office in Chicago for six months. If you receive the email Sarah, our Human Resource manager, sent to us last Friday, you would know that there is a six month position open to internal employees to assist with a project that will involve a large work load. As we known, our office has been working closely with the head office on several project. Since it is not our peak time at the time of this year, I think I should be able to help out with the project in the head office. Not only could we further keep a stronger bond with them, but also it is a great opportunity for me learn from others working in the head office. When I am back, I could also share what I learn with our coworker.
If I could have the opportunity, Jake, the team lead of research group will cover my work while I am away. But beyond that, we will keep in touch with each other on a daily basis to ensure that things are going well.
I greatly appreciate if you could touch base with the project lead in the head office to schedule the most appropriate timing for me to start.
Thank you for your time and consideration and I look forward to receiving your response.
Yours sincerely,
Amanda Hardy
