The reading asserts that the number of frogs have decreased in their environment significantly. The frogs' population help humans by eliminating some special kind of insect which spread diseases. Various methods have been utilized to preserve the frogs' population. On the other hand, the lecturer finds it farfetched to protect the frogs and finds the proposed solutions impractical because of some significant reasons which will be discussed respectively.
First of all, the author argues that frogs are being suffered from chemicals which are used in order to preserve farms from being destroyed by insects and the law should be set to prevent farmers to use those chemicals. In contrast, the lecturer rejects the proposed idea because farmers rely on those chemicals to preserve their farm and stay competitive in the market. So if the rules being set to make a restriction on utilizing pesticides, it's going to cause them severe disadvantages, besides this is not the rational and economical solution especially for the farmers.
Furthermore, the reading passage holds the view that another major reason responsible for frogs' population decline is a fungus that has spread around the world since they utilize the frogs' skin to absorb water, consequently, the frogs die due to lack of water and dehydration. So some kind of treatment has been proposed to eliminate fungus. On the other hand, the professor criticizes the mentioned treatment because the proposed method should individually be applied to each frog which makes the method infeasible to applied on a large scale, moreover the complication and expenses of the treatment make it irrational to being used widely.
Finally, the passage asserts that since most frogs species lay their eggs in water and they are dependant on wetlands. On the other hand, many such habits are threatened by human activities such as draining waterlands in order to make them suitable for development. In contrast, the teacher rejects the proposed idea and revealed that global warming is the real frog's enemy which contributed to depleting waterlands and put the frogs' population endanger.
